This report assesses market perceptions of Cloud Computing and the way that this is changing the commercial context for IT Services engagements. It also explores the changing shape of the Cloud services market opportunity from 2010 – 2015.

The changing value-chain for IT Services in the context of the Cloud is also examined, analysing the competitive differentiation of key IT Service vendors and how they will fit into the new IT service ecosystem.

Key messages from the research are:

  • that an investment in virtualisation is not a Cloud Computing strategy
  • that Cloud Computing is more about delivering Software-as-a-Service, than it is about infrastructure solutions
  • that Cloud Computing will give Small-to-Medium Businesses an advantage over Enterprises
  • that Cloud Computing reduces attractions of wage arbitrage from outsourced IT Services
  • that CIOs need to build selective relationships with particular types of vendor
