Dr Katy Ring – Director K2 Advisory
A renowned analyst, Katy heads up K2 Advisory, the analyst capability she founded at Sift Media in 2009. She has extensive experience built up over 25 years in the IT industry providing strategic advice to C-level executives in both IT supplier and buyer organisations. Katy spent 12 of those years at Ovum leading research into the opportunities for emerging software and services markets as well as developing the company’s Outsourcing Practice.
Over the years Katy has developed a strong research-based advisory capability focusing on areas where the global IT service delivery model is changing. These areas include: Cloud services, the impact of IT industry change on the CIO role, innovation, sustainability and world sourcing of labour.
Before her tenure as a Principal Analyst and Practice Leader at Ovum, Katy was a journalist with publications such as Computer Weekly and Computergram, and was a founding editor of Software Futures.
Dr Ring holds two degrees: an Honours degree in politics, philosophy and history from the London School of Economics; and a PhD in the popularisation of science from the University of Kent in Canterbury.
Kate Hanaghan - Research Manager

With many years of experience as an analyst in the IT industry, Kate manages the research content for the K2 Advisory CIO Research Forum. She works with CIOs to involve them in both the research programme and regular research-led briefings.
Special interest areas include innovation, mid-market challenges, innovation and the impact of evolving delivery models on the IT department. Kate previously worked for analyst firm, Ovum where she was a senior analyst in the IT Services Practice.
Kate’s work with clients has been wide-ranging and includes providing strategic advice to C-level executives and providing strategic planning and marketing support to technology vendors. Kate has also worked on market due diligence projects for investment firms.
Before working as an analyst, Kate was a journalist and online TV reporter specialising in technology. Kate holds a BA (Hons) degree in history with psychology.
Claire Singer - Business Development Manager
Claire looks after the CIO Research Forum members ensuring that analyst-led insight, independent research and networking opportunities from K2 Advisory match their needs. She is also responsible for linking vendors in with K2 Advisory’s extensive knowledge of the challenges and priorities of CIOs in order to further their understanding of the customer base.
With 11 years in the public sector, Claire has worked in commercial and operational roles, giving her wide-ranging experience in both the delivery and purchasing of services.
Claire most recently led the Analysis and Research team at UCAS, the admissions service for higher education in the UK, providing quantitative analysis for both public and private sector clients. Prior to that, she worked as a Business Development Executive as well as establishing UCAS’s first technical testing team.
Claire holds a BSc (Hons) in Geography and Mathematics and a Diploma in Management.
